Double chance in football: how the market works
Double chance lets a single selection cover two of the three possible match results. As of 26 September 2026, Odds.Directory tracks it on 1051 football events across 211 competitions.
What the market is
The market offers three selections, each combining two outcomes of the match result: home or draw, home or away, and draw or away. A selection wins if either of its two outcomes happens.
Because each selection covers more of the possible results, double chance prices are shorter than the corresponding match result prices.
How it settles
Settlement follows the full-time match result, meaning normal time including stoppage time. Extra time and penalty shoot-outs do not count.
Home or draw wins unless the away team wins; draw or away wins unless the home team wins; home or away wins unless the match is drawn. Every completed match therefore settles two of the three selections as winners.
Reading the odds
Divide 100 by the decimal price to get the implied probability. Because two selections win in every match, the three implied probabilities add up to about twice the usual total rather than 100%, plus the bookmaker's margin.
Double chance prices mirror the match result market. When the home win shortens there, the home or draw and home or away selections usually shorten with it.
Movement
Odds.Directory records opening, closing, high and low prices for each double chance selection on every tracked match. Movements in this market tend to follow the match result market closely, as both are priced from the same view of the three outcomes.
The pages show how prices moved and by how much, without assigning a cause.
Reading it with the match result
Each double chance selection is the complement of one match result outcome. Home or draw is the opposite of an away win, draw or away is the opposite of a home win, and home or away is the opposite of a draw. The implied probability of a double chance selection is therefore close to 100% minus the implied probability of the outcome it excludes, before margin.
This makes double chance a quick check on the match result market. If the draw in the match result market shortens, the home or away selection drifts, and the two home-and-draw or draw-and-away selections tend to shorten.
On a match page the main odds block shows the match result prices with opening and closing values, and the full market list includes double chance where it is offered.
